Legendary live music venue established in 1982, previously hosting the likes of Oasis, Radiohead, Muse, Jeff Buckley and Amy Winehouse to name a few! The venue hosts live music 7 nights a week and with new club nights at weekends The Fleece is a must for music lovers and students. After opening it’s doors in 1982, The Fleece went under new management in May 2010, which led to more shows being booked, a complete refurbishment and an increase in capacity. The venue supports local bands and musicians with 4 band local showcase nights usually at least once per week increasing to 3-4 times per week out of tour season. The Fleece also hosts regular Sunday all-dayers with 12 band bills or even up to 20 acoustic acts. Local bands with a good following and of a certain standard are regularly offered good tour supports to help them gain exposure to a wider audience. The venue management are fully aware of the usual common gripes of regular gig go-ers so The Fleece has full disabled access, brand new toilets which are regularly cleaned and maintained, friendly door staff and very affordable drinks with plenty of bar staff so there are vary rarely any queues at the bar! The Fleece is one of the UK’s few truly independent live music venues and is passionately run by local musician Chris Sharp who is also the bass player with local art-rock legends The Blue Aeroplanes.
