The Smokehouse is a community focused live music and media venue situated in Ipswich, recently celebrating its 2nd birthday. During the day the venue hosts grant-funded workshops for people from challenging backgrounds, and in the evening it becomes a live music venue with an open and eclectic program curated through hiring out to bands and promoters at nominal costs.
Since opening in October 2016 The Smokehouse has hosted over 200 original gigs with over 600 bands/artists taking to our stage. We have hosted many up and coming bands from our region and have had established acts including DJ Format & Abdominal, Rainbow Girls and The Rutles perform in our venue. We are really excited for 2019’s IVW to be welcoming This is The Kit, Bessie Turner, Vanity Fairy, Daniel Wakeford, Monster Florence and Snapped Ankles into our ears and hearts!
At The Smokehouse we have a DIY ethos and are 90% volunteer run on our gig nights and boast over 120 volunteers who get involved learning sound and lighting, videography, bar and front of house duties.
Based at South Street Studios, the building is shared with Punch Studios an analogue and digital recording studio and IO Radio a youth centred internet radio station.
