229 London

229 Great Portland Street, London, W1W 5PN | Venue Cap. 620 (Main Room) 180 (2nd Room) | Website

Central London’s most versatile, multi-faceted venue, supporting grassroots music. Vibrant. Diverse. Independent.

229 is a multi-purpose entertainments venue which has played host many gigs, club nights, awards ceremonies, comedy and fashion events, gala dinners and weekend festivals. Some of the acts to have played at 229 include: Kings of Leon, Paul Weller, Florence and the Machine, Tinie Tempah, Biffy Clyro, James Arthur, Seasick Steve and Foals to name but a few. Venue spaces are adjacent to each other which can be used independently or combined.

Managed under the umbrella of International Students House (ISH), the Charity opened in 1965 as an accommodation centre which supports British and overseas students whilst they study at different Universities in London. All profit generated from the venues is ploughed back into the Charity and helps fund our Scholarship programmes for students we support from less advantaged countries.
