THE BLACK PRINCE

15 Abington Square, Northampton, NN1 4AE | Venue Cap. 200 | Website

The Black Prince is a large public house situated on Abington Square in the very heart of Northampton. A friendly pub, The Black Prince [formerly known as The Racehorse] was launched early in 2016, and is one of the better small live venues in Northamptonshire, boasting a refurbished live room with a capacity of slightly more than 200. The recent, extensive kitting out of the outside area for additional gig options means the summer months now regularly involve mini-festivals, stretching over one, two, or three stages!

Acts that have played this venue in the past twelve months include slowthai, Vader, Hands Off Gretel, Rozi Plain, Glamour Of The Kill, and The Last Ten Seconds of Life.

The pub has a long history of supporting the alternative scenes here in ShoeTown in all its guises since the 1970s, where everything from the prog of The Enid, the metalcore of Enter Shikari onto the Britrock of Reef has been showcased at one time or another.

For a long time known as the spiritual home of Goth, the contemporary Northampton music scene is in a very healthy place right now, with musicians hitting some serious heights in recent times: either in their own right [slowthai, Billy Lockett, VV Brown], or as part of backing a successful artist [Tom Grennan, Paul Weller, Spiritualized]. All of these people have in the past appeared on stage at this modest-but-revered music space.
